Cleaning a bedroom should be easy. It should be as simple as a little swipe of a duster, a fresh vacuuming, and clean sheets. Here’s what I do.
- During my weekly cleaning routine, I dust my bedroom when I dust the house. (Get dusting tips here.)
- During my weekly cleaning routine, I vacuum my bedroom on the same day I clean all the floors.
- Washing my sheets regularly is a part of my laundry routine, not something I have to plan around. (Learn How To Kill The Laundry Monster.)
These routines are how I always have a clean room but never have “clean my room” on a to do list. My room gets cleaned simply and efficiently during established cleaning and laundry routines. So, if you want a clean room, the best thing to do is get started following a Cleaning & Laundry Routine!
If Cleaning My Room Should Be Easy, Why Does It Feel Complicated?
If it should be so easy, why does cleaning your room often feel so complicated? It’s because of all the clutter and stuff you need to clean around. That’s what is making “cleaning” your bedroom feel hard. You probably actually picture the “tidying” when you picture cleaning your room.
What if you changed up a few dysfunctional patterns and learned some better habits instead?
I laugh at the laundry pile memes as much as anyone, but they can be something you laugh at and not relate to! Stop creating laundry piles! Whether they’re dirty or clean, make avoiding piles of laundry in your room part of you Basic Living Standard. Don’t let a pile build. A laundry routine is definitely your friend in this! (Read Beyond Killing the Monster – more tips for keeping laundry manageable.)
Super Tidy! every day. Every day, zoom around your home putting things where they belong – not just in a new resting place. (Read all the tips for making your Super Tidy successful.)
Organize Your Room! When you organize properly, every item has a place it belongs. When everything has a place it goes, keeping things put away is so easy. What’s hard is accumulating piles of stuff that you’re not sure where it goes. That’s going to always feel messy.
And of course, declutter your room regularly (or at least declutter once a year). When clutter creeps back in, it usually hits the bedrooms first. It is probably an obvious statement, but I’m going to type it anyway: decluttering makes tidying so much easier.
Don’t ignore your room and focus on the rest of the house. You deserve a space that feels good. Your room should be your sanctuary. Keeping it clean should be easy. Trade out a few bad habits for a few good ones and you are on your way to keeping a clean bedroom!
From my home to yours,
Mary
