I love what fabrics can do to bring texture to a room. And I love how banners can make any space feel more cheerful. A banner made of fabric creates such a happy union! Every single one of my kid’s rooms has a banner of some kind.
Today I’m going to focus on the banner that is in Izzy’s room, because it required ZERO sewing and came together SO quickly. It is my Jelly Roll Banner. (If you didn’t know, a Jelly Roll is a package of coordinating fabric strips, that are usually used by quilters.)
I’ve shown this banner before because I actually created it for a birthday party more than 5 years ago and have re-used it at many birthday parties since then. Here it was at Izzy’s 10th birthday party a few years ago:
Now it is displayed in Izzy’s room. The room is light and bright, full of happy colors. The happy rainbow Jelly Roll Banner completes it perfectly. (THIS is the jelly roll I used for the rainbow jelly roll banner.)
Recently I hosted a baby shower for my friend here in Forney. I created a fabric banner for her too. What I like about a Jelly Roll Fabric Banner for shower decor is that you can gift it to the mother and the baby shower decorations will live on in the baby’s nursery.
My friend texted me a picture of her daughter staring up at the banner. She says her daughter stares at it every time her diaper is changed. I just love it!!!
How To Make A Fabric Jelly Roll Banner
To make it, you just need your choice of jelly rolls and some twine (it needs to be something like twine or rope, so it won’t break when you hang it up).
Cut the piece of twine as long as you’d like. Make it plenty big because it is much easier to cut extra off than to have it too short.
Then, take each strip of fabric and tie it around the twine. That’s it – so easy!
I love these fabric banners for birthday parties, baby showers, and just regular every day kids’ room decor! They make such a big happy statement, adding texture and color. Make one and use it for everything!
From my home to yours,
Mary
