Moving is the worst. I don’t care how experienced or organized you are, there is just no way around it being a ton of work. Still, there are definitely ways of doing it smarter and making the work a little easier.
We moved last summer. And we moved 3 summers ago too. I know from my recent experience that the most helpful thing when unpacking is for the boxes to be in or near the room they need to be. When Kitchen boxes end up in bedrooms or office boxes end up in the kitchen, it slows down the unpacking process sooooo much!
To fix that problem, during our last move I printed color-coded labels that went on all of our boxes. The movers we hired commented on how helpful the stickers were, because yeah, the labels were kind of awesome if I do say so myself. (We packed ourselves but hired movers to actually move us.)

All you’ll need are Avery Label stickers #18163 and a printer. Here are the pdf printables to make moving easier:
- Moving Labels (all rooms in one pdf file)
- Moving Labels – Bathroom
- Moving Labels – Bedroom #2
- Moving Labels – Bedroom #3
- Moving Labels – Bedroom #4
- Moving Labels – Garage
- Moving Labels – Kitchen
- Moving Labels – Laundry Room
- Moving Labels – Linen Closet
- Moving Labels – Living Room
- Moving Labels – Master Bedroom
- Moving Labels – Office
- Moving Labels – Playroom
Moving required so.many.boxes. Whenever I thought we bought our last batch of boxes, I was usually wrong.

Thank you for this Mary! We plan on moving in about 2 years or 3 at the most and this is a great help.
Pin it so you can remember it when you move!
Mary, I love the pre-printed label idea with names of the rooms. I viewed your templates and looked up the labels on Avery, but saw no colored ones. Do these labels come in colors? All your templates have the same Avery item number, but they are white. Please clarify. Thank you.
So … the printer will print the different colors. My labels started white and then the printer put the color on them š
I use color construction paper to print the labels for each room. For example, I use red paper for the office, yellow paper for the bedroom, etc. It also makes recognizing the boxes easier.
Great idea š
Thank you for these! Any chance you can share an editable file? Love these but have some differently named rooms. Basement, etc.
Sorry, I don’t have an editable file to share, but maybe you could use a combo of different colors to help differentiate spaces. Good luck with your move!
