The exclamation is for me – I’m yelling at myself for letting my cutting boards get so dry. I mean, it is the easiest little chore ever to oil them up. It takes literally less than 5 minutes to do. (And I’m not using literally in a figurative way, it literally takes less than 5 minutes.)
Oiling your cutting board makes them last longer and makes them easier to clean! I use the Real Simple Cutting Board oil – good price and good quality, that’s all I want.
Look at how dry I had let my cutting boards get.
I use one small piece of paper towel with the oil. I drip the oil onto the board and just rub it all over. Here’s some fun progress shots. Sooooo dramatic.
If you like befores and afters … this is pretty satisfying!
I mean, really really satisfying. Kind of like watching that oil absorb into the wood. There is something so satisfying.
Look how happy they look being oiled up. The “wet look” is only because I took pictures right after I oiled them. In a few hours, they’ll still look darker and happier, but they won’t look wet. The wood soaks all the oil up.
Like I said even with taking pictures, the process is less than 5 minutes. If your cutting boards look sad and dry, please, please oil them up!
But, if you’re cutting boards are too far gone, buy a new cutting board and try again … this time with more oil.
From my home to yours,
Mary
