I write a lot about decluttering. Like, a lot a lot. If you want to browse everything, do that here, but maybe you have limited time and you just want to read the best of the best.
I will say, it was very hard to reduce down my favorites to only 10, because there’s some important message in each thing I write (or I wouldn’t write it). But still … I did it. Based on my difficult decisions, here’s what I think are the most important posts about Decluttering:
(Some of these I wrote years ago, so be forgiving of old graphics!)
All or Nothing
“How does Perfectionism effect decluttering?”
Depression and Your Messy House
“As you begin to do a few small things, youāll notice a miracle within yourself starts to happen.”
Guiding Children to Declutter
“Iām a professional organizer and a mother. Iāve put together an eBook that details my experience teaching children how to declutter. It is 8 pages and a quick read, but so important if you are trying to declutter childrenās things.”
Quit Your FREE Thinking
“Stop feeling like you need to fill a void with stuff.”
Saying Goodbye to Sentimental Items
“Love comes with the freedom to be happy, or it isnāt really love.”
Some Casualties are Okay
“Clutter is a weight that has built on top of you so gradually, you donāt even realize anymore that it is holding you down.”
What You Can Do
“Perfectionism is that feeling that says do all or nothing. Do it all perfectly or donāt try at all. Perfectionism is rooted in unrealistic perceptions and expectations of ourselves. Don’t let what you can’t do get in the way of what you can do.”
When in Doubt, Get Rid of It
“I think you can all close your eyes and think of something you have kept long enough.”
You’re Not Helping Your Children By Keeping All Their Stuff
“They ignore the truth that if one piece of plastic wasnāt available for those 15 minutes, the child would have found something else to do.”
Your Junk or Your Life –
“Stop letting the stuff take over your life. If you have to choose between Your JUNK or Your Life ā always choose your life.”
Alright, so there you go!! Now it’s time to read some inspiration and get your mind ready to declutter!
From my home to yours,
Mary
I definitely need the teaching kids to de clutter. Iām pretty good about decluttering and keep things organized. My girls, however, are pack rats. Iām talking saving wrapping paper. š¬
Oh girl, I’m still on step 1 with Brian. It takes time, just keep at it!
