My Epoxy Garage Floor

This is not a “HOW TO” because I actually paid someone to do this before we moved into our new house. I do not regret paying someone, moving is a crazy enough time, I can’t imagine adding the need to “do it all myself” – yikes.

There is a big difference between garage floor paint and epoxy. In our most recent home in Arkansas, we had the garage floor painted blue. It was a special garage floor paint that resisted wear and tear, but it is definitely a lot different than the epoxy treatment we had in our next house.

In our most recent home before this one, we found out what it was like to have really nice epoxy on our garage floors. Once we were used to it, it was hard to imagine ever not having it. It makes our garage floor feel like an extension of our home!

You have to keep things off the new epoxy floor for 4 DAYS! I had it done while the inside of the house was being painted and floors were being cleaned.

We paid professionals who super-cleaned the bare floor before adding the epoxy. I selected the maximum amount of flakes, because when it all solidifies, it makes the floor more durable. I think it is gorgeous!

(The color is dolphin. I liked that it had a mix of warm and cool neutrals, so I think the color will stand the test of time as paint colors go in and out of style.)

And it was so nice to have a clean, fresh garage floor during the move since the garage often becomes the “business center” during a move.

{My kids were sitting here holding hands because they were fighting and I told them to sit and hold hands until everyone was happy. πŸ˜‚}

This is not a sponsored post, but I can’t help sharing about it, because we love our garage floor so much. I know there are a lot of DIY videos out there if you’re in a place to be able to tackle this big job yourself. If not, there is not shame in hiring it out. I don’t regret it!

From my home to yours,
Mary

    Mary, I LOVE that you have your kids hold hands to resolve conflict. Such a wonderful parenting solution!! (Also love your garage floor!)

    Funny that I should see this now Mary as we are discussing getting this done to our garage πŸ™‚
    Do you use your garage for your cars or more for extra activities?
    The issue we had earlier in the year when there was snow – I know not your issue πŸ™‚ – was pulling into the garage the car slipped once we got in. Not a lot but enough to notice. So wondering if this would help.
    Thanks!

      We have a 3 car garage and we park our 2 cars in it. In the 3rd spot is everything else – kids bikes, tools, etc. We don’t get really snowy, icy water, but I do think the texture of the epoxy may help. I’d ask the company in your area what they think, because it is also glossy looking … which makes me think it could be slippy … but we’ve never slipped on it and our cars grip well when it rains here. Goodness, it doesn’t sound like I’m much help! πŸ€ͺ
