Your Master Bedroom should be your sanctuary, not the place you cram things you don’t want to deal with right now. You spend important time in here: good sleep and a good morning routine are two of the most powerful contributors to a successful and happy life. Time spent on your Master Suite is not wasted.
Create a space that is peaceful and cozy when you go to bed, and also beautiful and organized to give you good feelings as you start your day.
What could you do to make your Master Suite better for yourself?
What does your Master Suite Need?
I want you to think: what possible changes would make the a difference in your Master Suite?

How to Pick Your Project
Go ahead and cross off the things that aren’t possible to do right now, like things that are out of your budget or things that just don’t work out timing-wise.
Now, choose 1-3 things that are left that will make the biggest difference. (Only do more than 3 if you’re list has some quick and easy things!)
Don’t focus on what you can’t change. For example, the placement of the windows in my master bedroom bother me. Random, I know, but when I think about what I can do to my master bedroom … I can work on decor that minimizes the problem, but I can’t change the location of the window.
Now tell me in the comments what projects you’ve selected so I can cheer you on!
Go ahead, refresh and breathe some new life into one of the most important rooms in the whole house.
From my home to yours,
Mary
Rachel M. says
1. Clear out the old/unused clothes from the closet
2. Finally putting all the clean clothes away that just end up in random piles all over the room.
3. Clear off my dresser
Mary says
Those are fantastic! You’re room is going to FEEL so good when you’re done!

This is one of my major projects to tackle!!! Living in the South, and my bedroom gets all the afternoon sun, my draperies are just suffering from the years of it….so that is the impetus for me to overhaul the bedroom!!! But it will be a huge project….off with wallpaper, new paint, new draperies, (I have a quilt that I made for the bed, so it will be my focal point…for color and window treatments!!!). Time to update and renew!!! Great list….thank you for that!!! I have started the bathroom cleanup…..amazing how those drawers just fill up!!!
Mary says
That is a big project you’ve chosen, but it sounds like you’ve been waiting a lot time to get it done. It will feel like a whole new room, which will actually make your whole house feel better!

I have a long list to do in my bedroom, but I’ll do the most important things first. Touch up paint is actually “finish painting” as I painted quick (years ago) and never brought the wall color up to the ceiling. Closet decuttering is a must, and wall decor is long overdue. Hubs promised to alter our bed frame, so I’ll get him involved, too.
Mary says
Great list! It will feel so great to finally finish the painting. Yay!! You’ve got this!
Cynthia says
Thanks to previous years of decluttering, my closets are good. The only pieces of furniture are one accent table, one hutch, and my bed. The hutch needs pully thingies. One broke and I’ve had trouble replacing it; determined to succeed this time. And I think I’ll redo the artwork.
Mary says
Love your list and that you’re getting to take it a little easier because you’ve been keeping up with decluttering!

I am going to tackle my guest room. I did our master bedroom earlier this year while redoing the bathroom. And I have guests from out of town coming in October. Plan to clean out the junk sitting in there from other rooms and hang decorations that were purchased but never put up.
Mary says
First of all, good job already re-doing your master bedroom! Focusing on your guest room sounds like a great idea.
Betty says
Thank you for suggesting this. There are small items I need to do.
Remove the curtain brackets from older set up
Add a new pillow (have had pillow sham for awhile but no insert)
Make room refresh spray from essential oils
Declutter under the bed boxes
Mary says
That seems like a great list! Sometimes fixing the little things can make such a big difference.
Judy says
We have only lived here a year, so this should not be too difficult. However, this is the spot that the “extra” things ended up after moving. So there is work to be done.
1. New throw pillows
2. Get rid of boxes/ storage
3. Hang the mirror.
4. Declutter closet.
Mary says
Yes, you are not alone. So many people end up with the “extra” boxes in their master bedroom after they move. The room will feel so much bigger when you’re done.
Holly Mesarch says
I’m going to finish sprucing up the master by
1. Ordering and Hanging art over the bed
2. Chipping away at the photo albums on the desk and keeping it a usable and not a storage space.
3. Taking off the price tags on the new flowers I bought in May. 😀
Mary says
I had to laugh at #3, because I totally had to cut off a tag on a basket I bought a month ago and have already been using. Those are great ones … they’ll make a difference and they’re very do-able.
Holly Mesarch says
Right?! It’s those little things like tags that add up to a big difference!
Also, I’m so glad you’re doing the family photos separately. That will help me to not move the photos entirely out of my room but just feel reassured that it will happen during another week’s challenge. Phew!
Love me some baby steps.

I live alone in the house I grew up in, so there is lots of stuff that has collected over the years. My bedroom has become a dumping ground and storage area for things I need to get out of sight when company is here. It’s anything but a sanctuary, and that needs to change! It needs a major overhaul (old wallpaper stripped off, new closet built, old plaster replaced, etc.), but that can’t happen just yet. Right now, I need to start with decluttering the bedding I have and dividing some of it up with my sister, then properly storing what I’m keeping. I have an antique dresser stored in my building that I want to bring in to my room, which will eliminate some of the piles of clothes that are sitting around. I also need to declutter/remove the things from my room that really don’t belong there. I know I have my work cut out for me, but it has to be done, even if it’s the only thing I work on during this challenge!
Mary says
Sounds like you know what you need to do, so now you just got to get it done. You’ve got this!!!
Janice says
Thanks Mary! Yes, I know lots of things around here that need to be done; it’s always about getting motivated and getting moving! I love the encouragement I get from this group!
Nina says
I need to clear off my craft desk, paint my craft desk, and finish painting the walls (this is in my bedroom).
Mary says
Great list! You’ve got this!
Lori says
I’m a little slow getting started on this challenge but since i did my master earlier in the year it’s not bad. We started painting the bathroom earlier then life happened and we didn’t get the bedroom done so I think that is one thing I will add to my list. The only other things to do is take out a small bookcase that is empty that I’m giving to my son, take two small baskets of items to put away elsewhere and possibly do a quick go through of the bathroom drawers to be sure they are uncluttered. I think these are doable in the week we have left.
Mary says
That is still a big list, so I’d say do the most important things first and be happy with however far you get! Let me know how it goes!
