I’ve shared so many different master bedrooms over the years that I can’t keep naming them the NEW tour. We’ll just call this the 2nd master bedroom we’ve had since we moved to Texas.
You’ll notice a lot of my furniture is actually identical to what I had back in 2012 when I started the blog. And I had already had it for a little while then. Sometimes I think about painting it because it is getting kind of dinged up in places, but I still like it. The bedding is different, of course, but still the same color scheme. I like what I like!
Let’s start with a little video tour. I think the video helps you get a better feel of the room than flat pictures.
Here are some of the things I mention in the video that may be interesting to you:
- Evolution of My Bedding
- Beautiful Heirloom Hoop Art
- Cleaning Champion: Air Purifiers
- Snake Plants – My New House Plant Obsession
- The original master bedroom tour – 8 years ago, in our Arkansas home.
THE PICTURE TOUR
Here is the picture tour of the room, so I can explain things I didn’t mention in the video –
We’ll start by the door, which isn’t exactly a beautiful focal wall, but it serves its purpose of a place to watch tv away from the chaos of the living room.
I hate the wires coming out of the tv. We paid an electrician to hide the ones in the living room, but weren’t ready to commit to a spot in here yet. Eventually we’ll get that done, but probably not until there is another reason to have the electrician come out.
I move my snake plants around the house. (I like to keep things fresh, lol.) I have so many snake plants and I just love them.
I think every master bedroom needs a chair, because sometimes we want to hang out but one of us is more comfortable sitting up on a laptop here. Or, it is a great place to read too.
The hangy-upside down thing is called an inversion table and helps Matt’s back feel better. It is ugly, but him feeling good is more important than aesthetics. He has been warned that if he ever stops using it, then it goes to the garage. Ha!
This is on Matt’s side of the bed, on his nightstand. We look like babies. His mom gifted this to us and I still like it. I think it was her favorite picture of Matt from our engagement photos.
I love our bed now, it has become one of my very favorite places in the house. Not only did we finally find bedding that is comfortable and I really like, but the hoop art above the bed adds to it. The combo just makes me so happy!
This is my nightstand. We were strolling HomeGoods on a date night and Matt bought me these flowers when I said I liked them. He doesn’t enjoy window-shopping like me or just walking around stores that aren’t Academy Sports or Best Buy. These flowers remind me that he is really willing to do anything to make me happy.
I think decorations in the master bedroom should bring a couple together, promote peaceful and happy thoughts.
I went backpacking through Europe after high school with some friends. I bought the small painting on that trip. Then, my brother Greg brought back the larger painting from his mission to France. I framed them to match. These paintings make me think happy thoughts.
I think our corner double-door into our bathroom is so handy. We keep these doors open 99% of the day and the additional light streaming into the room adds brightness and makes me even happier to be in my room. I’m one of those weirdos that enjoys naps in bright and sunny places – the sunnier the better. I don’t like lightbulb-bright for naps, but natural-light-bright, if that makes sense.
This is the cabinet housing all of my picture projects. If you did the Love Home Challenge with us last fall, you know organizing pictures are a weak spot for me. I’m making progress, though! And this cabinet keeps the “progress” from piling up around the house.
This little puppy has free-reign of our room and bed. To even imagine that we tried having her sleep in a crate – as if! This blanket at the end of the bed is pretty much hers, she uses it like a pillow.
One time I woke up from a power nap with almost ALL of her toys next to me. She had brought them to me one by one while I slept. πI had to re-take the video above several times because she kept interrupting me by bringing a toy to me and squeaking it really loudly to play. Funny puppy. I am totally in love with her.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour! Our master bedroom stays clean because everything in here has a place. I have a few little decorations out, but I don’t like too many knick-knacks that will get dusty. That makes it a lot easier to clean too.
Maybe tonight Matt will grab that guitar and serenade me a little. Crossing my fingers.
If this tour inspired you, let me know!
From my home to yours,
Mary

I loved this! Your commentary and explanations are just super sweet & helpful!
Oh my goodness, your bedroom compared to mine, would give you a heart attack or perhaps just make you faint! I LOVE knick-knacks! My nightstands and shelves are just full. I see the empty top of your nightstand, and I’m like “huh, that looks really clean and nice. But there’s nothing handy on top!” I like things very accessible, and sometimes drawers are just not convenient enough. (shrug)
I AM participating in the declutter challenge this year. I first tried 3 or 4 years ago, made it maybe half-way… Definitely time to try again! I’m very happy with the progress I made in my Master closet. But I didn’t get to the bathroom. I did i tiny bit in my bedroom, but then felt like I’m done b/c I’d just re-arranged bookshelves a few weeks ago and that meant taking everything off, and then re-arranging. So nothing is going goodbye from there! (my bedroom doubles as my personal craft/creative space, with all my lovely fandom collections… It is busy, not clear.)

My drawers slide open really easily, lol. I know people that like to keep stuff on top, though, I’d just recommend grouping it in a little basket or bin, so it is easy to dust around.
I’m glad you’re trying again with the declutter challenge. My opinion is that if you only did half, you’re still way ahead! Do what you need to do to stay engaged and keep going with it, even if you skip a day here and there.
Good luck!
